Immerse yourself in an inspiring studio environment surrounded by pine-forested mountain slopes, within an easy reach of the sea near Marathon and the museums and Acropolis of Athens! The Collage workshop offers you a unique opportunity to make art and discover new trails in the development of your own artistic expression. During this summer intensive workshop you will be taken on a journey through different ways of creating collage. Every day will start with a lecture/power point presentation with the work of modern and contemporary collage artists. Concepts and techniques employed by the artist will be demonstrated. You will be introduced you to the basics of collage, mixed media, abstract art, and photo montage, and you will get to know the main currents in the art of the 20th century. Then you have the rest of the day to create your own collages! An intensive week for all levels, either beginning or established artists!

In this 5 day workshop you will:

develop an understanding of collage (from 1900 to present).
learn a great diversity of collage techniques and skills
interpret and apply historical exemplars and concepts to your own studio practice

Discover the different collage techniques

During the Collage workshop students will be given assistance in discovering their own artistic cosmos and reconnecting with their inspiration. In this workshop you will discover a great diversity of different collage techniques and skills. We will research the various ways collage artists have discovered their own collage and photo montage techniques. In this workshop we will look at:

Introduction to the basics of collage, mixed media, abstract art and photo montage.
Creating composited images from found, taken, and scanned images.
Learning the techniques of masking, edge treatments, color space, shadows and highlights, texture, perspective, depth of field, harmony, symmetry, and narrative.
Practicing how to make the disparate elements meld seamlessly to create a sense of magic realism.
Going back home with several of your own dream collages or photo montages.

Paper, magazines to cut from, glue and paint for mixed media are included. You can print photos or buy stretched canvas at an additional cost. In the evening we will watch films in the home cinema on pioneering artists and artistic developments, followed by a lively discussion under the stars. These events will be a precious addition to your personal explorations in the studio as they create room for new insights and ideas.

VAWAA

Annette also offers a 4 day intensive apprenticeship in collage and photomontage at VAWAA (Vacation With an Artist). This is available the whole year. Again you can stay at her place and work the whole day in her studio. At the VAWAA you will receive 5 hours of techniques and tuition with slideshows, so it is more intensive. This is also private tuition so you can ask Annette exactly about what it is you want to learn. Annette will also take you on a trip to the sea and visit to a gourmet tavern for special Greek dishes!
